Humanity or mankind was evolved from beasts. Beast can be called a ‘human’ when it is able to analyse, create, deduce and formulate. Human beings strive to invent new from the new. It was also a time when people used pigeons to carry messages from one place to other place. Technology came into existence when humans started running into trouble in performing tasks quickly and accurately, recall that proverb “Necessity is the mother of invention” i.e. such troubles made humans to think for a solution so that their effort and intervention in performing tasks should reduce. Technology means implementing human knowledge into practical applications. Lot of advancements have been seen in technology since it handed a hand to humans. Modern technology is practiced in every field whether it may be engineering, medical, educational or economic. Technology has reached up to high peaks, scientists are experimenting to inject technology into human brains. Neurological Japanese Science Lab is experimenting to transfer the data (memory) from human brain into a computer. They did an experiment on a person by using a special electronic headgear that tracks the electric impulses of a brain and placed some pictures in front of that person, they were able to get the same pictures seen by the person on a computer screen. By this, they predicted that in coming decades, people will be able to see their dreams in the form of a video clip.
Taking a look on the optimistic and pessimistic side of technology. Every elements of the universe exhibits two faces, one is constructive face and other is destructive. We can notice the contribution of technology in both faces. Let us go through the positive side. As already told necessities tend to spawn inventions and each invention is annexed with the need of betterment and transmogrification. Advances in technology are happening at rapid pace and its change is responsible for many of the secular trends in such basic parameters of human conditions as size of the human population, life expectancy, education levels, material standards of living, nature of work and cultural habits. Other aspects of our lives and society are greatly influenced by technology in direct or indirect ways, for instance, human relationships, morality, human nature and our mind. New generation is being cultivated with modern habits without the need of human intervention. Technology is contributing a lot in medical fields, every diagnosis and treatment are carried out with the help of technology. It has vast hand in preparing drugs. It has become the backbone for medical research. Ultimately, it is covering every sphere of life. Whether it may be a huge thing like your home or a minute thing like your wallet, from a building to a needle, everything is equipped with technology.
On the other hand, society is becoming completely dependent on modern technology. People are impatient to wait for the things to get done. People prefer to get the things done within no time. We become impatient if it takes a few seconds more to download a content from internet. We expect a call to be answered whenever we call or we expect to get the immediate response of an email. In nutshell, people are losing patience as the technology is advancing. Can’t we tell this is a darker side of it? Yes, it is. It is bringing unusual changes in our minds. We don’t have a time nowadays to stay with our family as technology has already taken that space from us. Technology is making us so bust that we can can’t even find time to spend with our closed ones. It would be surprising to know that people are in contact through chat and online messaging though they are in same city because they think it is faster and effective but they are forgetting that meeting personally can never replace online chatting. We are trapped in it, if someone tries to leave, he or she finds himself in a stone age. People remain stressed in today’s world. As per the survey students are found to be mostly stressed. What is the reason? It is because student community is mostly connected with technology. They remain aware of everything across the world. Indeed, it is making the world smaller but it is also increasing the horrible conditions for humans. An inseparable issue of the technology is weaponry engineering is the darkest side of technology. Rivalries among the nations may be ascribed to technological advancements. Hi-tech weaponry system is creating a global threat among people as the countries compete for new warfare system.
As per my opinion goes, technology is as bad as it is good for humans. Let us unshackle our minds and think whether we should remain completely dependent on technology or not. I guess, we should take its help but in limited ways otherwise one day we have to face it. We are collectively imparting our knowledge to one focused thing and it is gradually grabbing it and one day it will overtake us. It is gradually making people dull and lethargic as technology doesn’t allow us to use our personal efforts and those efforts are done by it. Let me tell you an example, we learn driving a car by putting our efforts and intelligence into work and it turns into a skill. Cars have been made by different companies that are self-driving i.e. there is no need to drive it with human intervention, just we need to sit in that car and select the destination and it will take us their itself. So why we need to lean now how to drive a car? It is how technology is overtaking us. If people prefer to remain completely dependent on technology, the day is not too far when people will be lack of knowledge, intelligence, memory and skills. Mark Kennedy truly says: “All of the biggest technological inventions created by man – the airplane, the automobile, the computer – says little about his intelligence, but speaks volumes about his laziness.”
